About Robert Isley


Robert Isley has been in business in Rye, NY since 1992.  Over the past 28+ years, professional and semi-professional musicians, investors, teachers and students across the tri-state area and beyond have search out his expertise when looking for violins, violas and cellos. Clientele consist of international soloists, performers with Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra, Westchester Symphony, and teachers at premiere conservatories across the country.

Mr. Isley is also a prolific violin maker and has won awards through The Violin Society of America for his instruments 1986, 1990 and 1992.  His instruments are well known for their warm and powerful tone. His instruments are modeled off of the great Italians makers such as Amati, Stradivarius, Andrea Guarneri and Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu.

Mr. Isley was a founding member and treasurer of the New York Viola Society with the mission to support  local and international viola performers and repertoire.

As a native of Wilmington, NC, Mr. Isley attended East Carolina University where he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Music. After college he attended the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, graduating in 1985.

Mr. Isley is a member of The American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers.
